These websites relate to the concept of peak oil: the point in time when the maximum rate of global petroleum extraction is reached, after which the rate of production enters terminal decline. The peak oil issue impacts transportation, imports / exports, heating, housing, manufacturing, the agriculture industry, and more. The Transition Towns movement began in the UK in 2004 as a community response to peak oil, and is positively infecting North America.
